This weaving was translated from a painting done by a three-year old. I was very taken with her use of colour and shape - the painting seemed so dynamic. I traced a cartoon of a section of the painting and worked on my interpretation. I found it much more challenging than translating the work of known (adult) artists or my own sketches. I think this was because, as an adult, I like to think I can think 'abstractly' but my brain and eye obviously follow particular themes or patterns. For this painting, the rules were completely different. I found that I couldn't make assumptions about what might come next.
